Athletics in Moray is making great strides to provide for all future athletes. Violet Beattie, Moray Sports Centre Athletics Champion and long-term supporter, is leading the pack with her fundraising efforts.
Violet, who has been involved with the Elgin Amateur Athletics Club for the last 15 years, has taken the baton and is off and running with her commitment to bringing athletics to Moray.
Violet, who suffers from M.E. approached the MSC and presented her personal approach to assisting the fundraising efforts for the £12 million project. “I decided that I would raise money while I lost the pounds to help get better facilities for the talented athletes of Moray.”
“My aim is to lose weight for my health and wellbeing, hoping that when the pounds drop off my pains will be more bearable. This will allow me to get down and play with the grand children without having problems getting back up off the floor.”
Previously, Violet has raised money for the centre by hosting a quiz night and competing in a walking challenge. She now hopes the donations for her weight-loss will eclipse the amount she raised before.
She began her challenge on Monday 12th March, which is the start of Nutrition and Hydration week. She aims to complete her challenge on Single Parent Day 21st March 2019.
In 2016, she lost over 2 stone and has managed to keep that off but is looking to shed more pounds in order to stay as healthy as she can with her condition. Through her challenge she hopes to encourage others to make healthy changes and maybe even join her with their own fitness goals.
Violet is working with the MSC to help boost her weight loss through nutrition and exercise advice. All information she receives will be shared through both the MSC website and Social Media and her own Challenge Facebook page. “I am hoping to incorporate different forms of exercise throughout my journey; this will determine if it’s for me or maybe if it’s for others, you just have to give it a go, there is something out there for everyone.”
At the start of her challenge, Violet was officially weighed by nurse Hilary Ford of Linkwood Medical practice and will finish her weight loss challenge with an organised special event to celebrate her success.
