Moray Sports Centre (MSC) has been given the stamp of approval by sportscotland after the long- awaited project was awarded £250k by the national agency for sport.
This confirmation gives support to the delivery of the regional Sports Centre which is to be located on Linkwood Road in Elgin. The Centre is due to start Phase One of the build within the next few months.
Kathryn Evans, CEO of MSC, thanks sportscotland, “Presently the fundraising prospects across the UK are lessening almost on a daily basis, and therefore it’s great to have support from the national agency for sport. It gives other organisations the confidence to support us and opens the door to other funds. This credibility gives us a better chance to provide great opportunities to the people of Moray.”
A spokesperson for sportscotland said: "Our investment in facilities across the country underlines our commitment to helping build a world-class sport system for all, by providing more people with the opportunity to participate in sport and physical activity. We will continue to work with our partners to ensure the Moray Sports Centre project moves closer to becoming a reality over the coming months."
Long-time supporter of the project Richard Lochhead MSP added, “Having been involved in the campaign for better sports facilities for Moray for a long time, I’m well aware of the excitement around the development of the Moray Sports Centre.
Its fantastic news the project has received financial backing from sportscotland, which will hopefully help the project secure additional funding from elsewhere.
“As we fast approach the first shovel going in the ground, it is so important that the community gets behind the Sports Centre, supporting it in any way they can, given the real benefits it will bring from people across Moray.”
