Another gym, really?
We have been asked ‘why do we need another gym in Moray?’ It is a good question. There are a number of gyms, studios and exercise clubs within Moray. Why would we be any different?
We intend to change the face of fitness for all, long-term. It’s a bold statement and we will need experts to help us deliver and modernise fitness in Moray.
Since October 2015, we have been gathering feedback from NHS providers, doctors surgeries, physios and other medical professionals but the most important feedback has come from the people of Moray; people that do not feel comfortable or cannot access activities presently.
Shall I go to the gym tonight?
It is a simple thought. What if you wanted to go and get a regular fix of exercise, but due to the design, the support facilities or lack of staff understanding, you can’t? These are significant obstacles for a lot of people, but ones we can fix.
We know from first-hand experience that there is a need to provide better ‘access’ to facilities, accessible equipment and specifically trained team members (e.g. qualified in Macmillan Move More: Level 4 & Gentle Movement Training) to deliver classes and activities. We understand the strategy to improve health in Moray (PASH Strategy) and we are an active promoter for change and fully inclusive activities. Keeping regular contact with Scottish Disability Sport, we hear that current provision isn’t inclusive – this is unacceptable.
People in Moray need our help and assistance. We can resolve a number of access issues with a purpose built centre. We will cater for everyone, from those new to exercise through to groups that see it as a way of achieving their sporting goals.
Our Team is our greatest asset
In 2016, we launched our first Modern Apprentice role in association with a local factoring company and, when we are fully operational, we can expand our opportunities to include fitness instruction, personal training, exercise to music all the way through to specific qualifications in exercise referral, pre and post-natal exercise, obesity & diabetes, illness or injury rehabilitation to name a few.
This will be a community facility, run by members of the Moray community for the Moray community.
MSC is a community gym that will revise its programmes around our community and by educating our team to deliver excellent service.
Introduction to MSC main gym
Our induction into the gym will be tailored according to the previous knowledge and ability of the customer.
We know that some gyms can be intimidating and with sometimes only one session with an instructor isn’t enough. We want you to get the best out of every workout, we’ll teach you the different ways to use the equipment and we’ll be there to support you on your activity journey.
We can’t promise it will be painless but if it was we’d all have expert level fitness and abilities.
Our ambition is to assist you in achieving your activity aims… and we’ll check in with you regularly to ensure you stay on track.
Based in Edinburgh, we took our concept to Origin and asked them to draft our gym design. You can see the first draft (above) and you can provide feedback on anything you think we should add, or even ask questions as to what is included.
Origin has extensive knowledge in designing gym that will meet the most complex needs, read more.
